Dust Control for Mine Shutdown Works

Mine Shutdown Works. Temporary Dust Control.

Mine Shutdown Works are an essential part of running a mine and allow for work to be conducted safely and efficiently. These works frequently require temporary mobile dust control to mitigate the risks associated with dust generating activities. Our onsite team will help you determine the optimum set up of equipment to ensure dust and fumes are managed effectively as part of Shutdown planning. We are also able to rapidly deploy rental units if required.

Temporary dust control is also required when new fixed unit dust collectors are being installed or when existing units undergo maintenance or are relocated to allow production activities to continue.

Grydale design and manufacture a complete range of internationally patented, mobile industrial dust collection equipment. The JMS M-Series is an extensive range of mobile dust collectors with air volumes from 6m3/s (12,000 CFM) to 60m3/s (125,000 CFM).  These units are available for the duration of Shutdown Works.

Health, Safety and Environment. Driving Demand for Effective Dust Control Solutions.

Market demand for dust control solutions is escalating globally and health and safety experts are focusing on increasing dust control regulations due to the potentially hazardous consequences on the health and safety of workers.

Dusts that can cause diseases when inhaled are found in a large number of industries and industrial processes. Hazardous dusts include but are not limited to: asbestos, crystalline silica, hard metals, aluminum, bagasse, fertilizer, cotton, hay, straw, and grains. Silicosis is the most common occupational lung disease worldwide and often referred to as the modern asbestos.

The risk of dust related diseases increases with increased exposure. Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) legislation now places strict requirements for the management of dust through Workplace Exposure Limits (WEL). Globally, the WEL for specific dust types do vary, but regulations are being periodically reviewed and updated to take into account current scientific evidence linking exposure to disease.

Our Experience. Dust Control During Shutdown Works.

Dust Control for Mining Shutdown Works

Client: BHP, Olympic Dam
Application: Shutdown Works – Blast Furnace
Solution: JMS-60-MES Unit

A JMS-60-MES dust collector was used to mitigate the risks of hazardous dust during the rebuilding of the furnace at BHP Olympic Dam site.  The use of a single dust collector, simplified the set-up, reduce space requirements on site and provided a cost-effective solution to ensure the project timescales and budget were achieved.

Dust Control for Abrasive Blasting at Tarong Power Station

Client: BrandSafway
Application: Abrasive Blasting for Shutdown Works
Solution: JMS-30-MDT Unit

A JMS-30-MDT dust collector was used to control dust and fumes during abrasive blasting to remove lead paint from imported transformers.

Why Hire from Grydale? Mobile Dust Collection Equipment.

Grydale’s currently have one of the largest rental fleets of mobile dust collectors in the country, offering air volumes from 6m3/s (12,000 CFM) to 60m3/s (125,000 CFM).  These units are ideal for mining shutdown works and are available for short, medium and long-term rental or  purchase.

  • Rental units offers an effective dust control and ventilation solution for temporary works, such as during mine shutdown works. Rental units can also be used to keep plants operational when fixed dust collection equipment is undergoing maintenance works (or while awaiting fixed plant equipment).
  • Our onsite service and support team provide full operator familiarisation training to allow you to run units on site effectively.
  • Dry and Wet hire arrangements available.
  • We undertake scheduled and preventative servicing and maintenance of our equipment to ensure units arrive on site ready for work. This gives you the peace of mind that units have been fully serviced and maintained by the team who know our products best.

Large Volume Mobile Dust Collectors. Benefits.

Using a single machine has the following benefits:

  1. Simplified set up.
  2. Reduced space requirements on site.
  3. Cost effective freight and logistics.
  4. Cost effective operation and maintenance costs of a single dust collector.

If multiple machines are used then the working area will often need to be subdivided and multiple duct runs set up to link back to individual machines. There would also need to be more resources on site to run multiple machines and increased maintenance costs.

Grydale Mobile Dust Collectors. Configuration Options.

Mobile dust collectors are available with a range of air volumes, mobility and power options, to suit a wide range of industrial applications and site conditions.

Grydale mobile dust collectors can be easily positioned on site and have a compact space-saving design. Skid mounted units can be moved using cranes or castor wheels. Alternatively track units are self-propelled to move into position when required and moved out of position when not in use.

Single air intakes can be used to extract dust from a single source or multiple side air intakes can be used to extract dust from multiple sources simultaneously.

Air Volume Options:

6m3/s (12,000 CFM) – 60m3/s (125,000 CFM)

Grydale manufacture the largest air volume mobile dust collector currently available on the market.

Power Options:

Diesel
Electric (415V and 1000V)
Hybrid

Onboard Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) on Electric and Hybrid units or programable and Variable Air Flow control on Diesel powered units offers significant power efficiencies and subsequent cost savings.
