Onboard Dust Control System for Skid Steers

Grydale Patented Onboard Dust Control Solution

Onboard Dust Control System. Skid Steers and Posi Tracks

Skid steers equipped with sweeping attachments are commonly used in construction, demolition, and industrial settings to clean sites and manage debris. Clearing loose materials from work sites creates a safer, more organized environment, improves visibility, and eliminates slip hazards. However, the sweeping process can generate dust by disturbing fine particles on the ground. These particles may become airborne and spread into the surrounding environment.

Respirable dust presents a significant health and safety risk for workers. Fine dust particles can penetrate the lungs, leading to respiratory diseases such as silicosis. Additionally, inhaling airborne dust can degrade air quality, cause eye irritation, and reduced visibility, increasing the risk of accidents. Workplace regulations impose strict limits on exposure to hazardous dust and significant penalties can be imposed for failure to comply.
To protect worker health and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations, effective dust control measures are essential when using Skid Steers with sweeping attachments.

Using our expertise in dust control, we have developed and patented a dust control solution for Skid Steer units operating multi-functional and rotary broom attachments. This solution provides effective dust control at the source without the use of water.
Our dust control system features flexible and rigid ducting that connects the Negative Air Pressure Sweeper (NAPS) to the dust control unit mounted at the rear of the Skid Steer.

The dust control unit is equipped with a centrifugal fan powered by the Skid Steer’s hydraulic system, high-efficiency filters, a reverse pulse filter cleaning mechanism, and a hopper with a pneumatic slide gate discharge.

Onboard Dust Control. Key Features

Key Features of Onboard Dust Control System for Skid Steers

Negative Air Pressure Sweeper (NAPS): This sweeper houses a rotary brush with enclosed sides.
Dual Air Intakes: Two 200mm diameter spigots, which allow ducting to be attached.

Heavy Particle Clean-Out Grates: Heavy particles are captured in grates on the top of the sweeper house to avoid blockages in the duct run and increase filter life. These can be easily cleaned via the quick-release mechanism.

Ducting: Both flexible and solid ducting connect the Negative Air Pressure Sweeper (NAPS) to the dust control unit. The flexible ducting allows for effective operation while maneuvering on-site, whereas the solid ducting minimizes pressure loss throughout the system.

Dust Control Unit
The dust control unit, mounted at the rear of the Skid Steer features:

Centrifugal Fan: A centrifugal fan powered by the Skid Steer hydraulic system creates 1m³/s of air flow.

High Efficiency Filter Cartridges: Six custom high efficiency, pleated filter cartridges.

Reverse Pulse Cleaning System: The dust control unit includes an onboard air compressor, which feeds the pneumatic system to provide reverse pulse filter cleaning. Jet tubes direct air inside the filters, blasting air from the inside of each filter, effectively removing dust build-up and reducing the pressure drop across the filters. The Programmable Logic Computer (PLC) monitors the compressed air system pressure and triggers pulsing at the optimal time.

Hopper: The hopper collects dust released from the cartridge filters.

Pneumatic Slide Gate: The operator has complete control over when and where to discharge the dust from the hopper using the pneumatic actuated slide gate.

Support Frame: The support frame is specifically designed for a particular Skid Steer make and mode. A pivot point enables the dust control unit to rotate, allowing for essential maintenance on the machine.

Hydraulic Power:  A custom hydraulic manifold connects directly to the hydraulic couplers of the Skid Steer, enabling a ‘plug and play’ installation.

Control and Monitoring. Instrumentation.

The onboard dust control solution includes CANBus instrumentation to control the system from within the cabin.

Differential Pressure Gauge: This measures the pressure across the cartridge filters. A high reading can indicate that the filters are clogged and that the reverse pulse system needs to run or that the filters are at the end of their life and need to be changed.

Reverse Clean: The operator can switch the air compressor on or off, which will automatically begin the reverse cleaning cycle.

Reverse Camera and Operation Lights: We provide a relocation kit for the standard reverse camera and operational lights at the rear of the Skid Steer supplied by the OEM. This allows the operator to reverse and operate safely.

Simple Installation. Self-Install or Grydale Install Service.

The dust control solution can be easily installed using the detailed assembly instruction manual. Alternatively, our team can also install the system at our facilities or arrange for our Site Service Technician to instal at your location.

The onboard dust control system is designed for easy operation and maintenance by Skid Steer operators using the documentation provided. Quick-release mechanisms are incorporated throughout the system to facilitate rapid maintenance and efficient material discharge.
