increased the speed of ship loading from 100Tp/h to 540Tp/h, resulting in significant operating cost and time savings at the Port of Brisbane last week.

Our client is one of Australia’s largest suppliers of fertilisers, dispatching around two million tonnes each year. One of their production processing facilities is located at the Port of Brisbane where they manufacture Gran-am – a granulated ammonium sulphate fertilizer, that is shipped worldwide.

In an effort to control dust during ship loading, conveyor speeds had been reduced to only 100T per hour, causing an increase in operating costs and delays to shipping times. Our team were contacted to discuss possible dust control solutions.

The Grydale® JMS-50-MES dust collector was positioned at the port and five 508mm diameter intakes allowed dust to be extracted from multiple points within the ship hull during loading.

The results from the first ship loaded have been impressive. The first 10,000T ship arrived in Port last Thursday and was loaded by Saturday – three days earlier than previously scheduled.

The conveyor speed was increased from 100T per hour to 540T per hour, resulting in a significant operational cost and time saving with dramatically reduced port demurrage and labour costs.

In addition to the operational efficiencies and reduced health, safety and environmental impact, the dust discharged from the dust collector is collected in 1T bulker bags for use.

We have flexible rental and purchase options available for our range of mobile dust collectors that can be used to manage the loading / unloading of a wide range of dry bulk products either via clamshells or conveyors as part of ship loading / unloading.
